Project Goals
My goals for this project were to design an interface that feels intuitive to navigate, present information in a way that users can easily understand, and create a memorable experience by applying the various user interface laws and principles taught throughout the semester.
Process
Project Proposal
Before I create my prototype, I first wrote a project proposal that outlined my plan for the design of my final project. Using various laws and principles of user interface design, I explained how I would use each user interface principle to support my final design.
User Interface Principles
Von Restorff Effect
The Von Restorff Effect is a psychological principle that explains how people are more likely to remember the item that is different from a group of multiple similar items. This principle will be taken into account when I create my products page, where I will highlight key information of each matcha powder with a different color and font weight. This will draw users' attention and help users remember information easier.
Zeigarnik Effect
The Zeigarnik Effect is another principle that states that a person tends to remember incomplete tasks better than completed tasks. I will take advantage of this principle by incorporating a carousel indicator at the bottom of each page in the tutorial section. This will help users understand what step they are currently on, what steps are left, and which steps they have already completed.
Fitts's Law
Fitts’s Law is a principle that states that the time it takes a user to reach a target is dependent on the size and distance of the target. Considering this principle, I plan to make call to action buttons large and located within close proximity of the center of the page. This allows users to quickly and easily interact with these buttons.
Reflection
Completing this project has helped me realize that there is much more thought and intention behind the element placements and design within the layout of an interface. ,
